Item 1.04. Mine Safety – Reporting of Shutdowns and Patterns of Violations.

Section 1503(b)(1) of the Dodd-Frank Act requires the disclosure on a Current Report on Form 8-K of the receipt of an imminent danger order (an “Order”) under section 107(a) of the Federal Mine Safety and Health Act of 1977 issued by the Mine Safety and Health Administration (“MSHA”).

On April 23, 2013, Hibbing Taconite Company (the “Company”), the operations of which are managed by a wholly owned subsidiary of Cliffs Natural Resources Inc. and are located in Minnesota, received an Order dated April 22, 2013 from MSHA stating, among other things, that a contract employee at the Company’s plant was observed standing directly below piping being suspended about 50 feet in height from the floor below. According to the Order, this condition exposed the contract employee to a falling material hazard or being struck by unsuspecting shifting load. The contract employee was removed from under the suspended loan and the contractor retrained its workers and the Order was subsequently terminated.

The condition cited in the Order referred to above did not result in an accident or injury and is not expected to have a material adverse impact on the Company’s operations at the mine.
