Item 1.04 Mine Safety - Reporting of Shutdowns and Patterns of Violations.
On May 1, 2013, D S S Company, an indirect subsidiary of MDU Resources Group, Inc., received an imminent danger order issued by the Mine Safety and Health Administration under section 107(a) of the Federal Mine Safety and Health Act of 1977 at the Vernalis plant in Tracy, California. The order was issued upon observation that a scraper in service did not stop on a grade when tested. The scraper was removed from service and the brakes were repaired. The order was terminated when it was confirmed the scraper met the applicable standard.
