London, UK - 21 July, 2025 - Planet Buu, a new emotional regulation toolkit for young children, has launched on Kickstarter and reached 48% funding within its first three days. Created by a trained child therapist and a psychology-focused parent team, the project offers practical, tactile, and story-led tools designed to help children manage emotional overwhelm in real time.
The toolkit includes a hardcover children’s book (Buu & The Hugwaves), two CE / UKCA certified plush characters (Buu and Grumm), a magnetic emotion check-in board, a set of fridge-safe co-regulation message magnets, and printable emotional role certificates. These tools are designed to support use in calm corners, therapy sessions, home routines, SEND classrooms, and early years interventions.
Co-founder James Hartshorn, a parent and Positive Psychology Coach with an MBA in Business Psychology, developed Planet Buu alongside Yulia Hartshorn, a trained child therapist with a background in speech and emotional development. The couple drew on both clinical training and lived experience parenting neurodivergent children to design a system that meets children where they are — in the moment of emotional overload.
“We weren’t seeing tools that worked during distress — only after the fact,” says Hartshorn. “We wanted something developmentally respectful, emotionally grounded, and actually usable in those high-stress moments.”
The campaign features two primary reward tiers: the Super Pack for individual families and the Boutique Pack for clinics, classrooms, or retailers. The project has already received strong interest from therapists and SENCOs looking for practical co-regulation tools with a credible psychological foundation.
The Kickstarter runs until 17 August 2025, with funds supporting first-run production and international fulfilment. If funded, delivery is scheduled for September–October 2025.
