Purpose and Effectiveness of Bearing Lubrication and Selection of Lubrication Method

The purpose of rolling bearing lubrication is to reduce internal friction and wear and prevent burning and sticking. Its effectiveness is reflected in the following aspects:

  • Reduce friction and wear. In the contact parts of the bearing rings, Rolling Elements and retainers, lubrication prevents direct metal contact, thereby reducing friction and wear.
  • Extend fatigue life. Good lubrication can keep the rolling contact surface of the bearing lubricated during rotation, thereby extending its fatigue life. On the contrary, insufficient oil viscosity or insufficient lubricating oil film thickness will shorten the life.
  • Discharge friction heat and cool. Using methods such as circulating oiling, the heat generated by friction or heat introduced from the outside can be discharged through the lubricating oil, playing a cooling role, preventing the bearing from overheating and the aging of the lubricating oil itself.
  • Other benefits. It also includes preventing foreign matter from invading the interior of the bearing, and preventing rust and corrosion.

Selection of lubrication method: The lubrication methods of bearings are divided into grease lubrication and oil lubrication. When choosing, it is necessary to consider the use conditions, purpose and lubrication effect. If the lubrication effect is the main consideration, oil lubrication has better lubricity. However, the advantage of grease lubrication is that it can simplify the structure around the bearing. Therefore, when making a choice, it is necessary to weigh the pros and cons of both.
