PushPass Turns YouTube QR Scans Into Lock Screen Notifications Built for brands running creator-led campaigns, no app required

FanCircles has expanded PushPass, a Wallet based VIP pass solution that allows brands to send push notifications directly to customers’ lock screens without requiring a mobile app.

PushPass works through Apple Wallet and Google Wallet, already installed on hundreds of millions of phones worldwide. This gives brands a way to build a persistent connection with customers without an app install.

PushPass was released in September and is now positioned as a product for brands running creator-led campaigns, particularly on YouTube, where QR codes have become the primary call to action for TV viewers.

Neal Mohan, CEO of YouTube, has stated that more than 50% of YouTube views come from TV. This represents a fundamental shift in how brands build creator-led YouTube campaigns. On mobile and desktop, links in the description still work. On TV, there’s no way to click a link. QR codes are the only practical interaction available to YouTube viewers on TV, and PushPass addresses this by reducing the CTA to “Join the club” rather than forcing a hard-sell purchase moment.

Many brands and creators already include QR codes, yet scan-through rates remain relatively low and purchase conversions are difficult to achieve in that moment.

The key issue is that QR codes are often used as a direct sales tool, but on TV, viewers are relaxed and in a laid-back mode. They are watching, not shopping, so when a QR code call to action is intended to drive purchase, the ask is too high. Not because the product is wrong. But because the timing is wrong.

This is where PushPass comes in.

Instead of forcing a scan to capture bottom-of-funnel intent, PushPass offers a low-intent invitation. The viewer scans a QR code, taps once, and adds a branded VIP pass to their Wallet. That pass becomes a persistent connection on the viewer’s phone, enabling the brand to send notifications directly to the user’s lock screen.

Once that connection is made, brands can communicate when the moment is most likely to drive purchase intent. That is where loyalty and brand recognition are built, and sales happen, when intent is appropriately timed and the customer is in a buying mindset.

PushPass also includes loyalty mechanics. Unlike traditional retail loyalty cards that primarily reward purchases, PushPass rewards actions such as visits to social networks, stores, and apps. This turns the pass into an active marketing channel.

FanCircles was founded in 2015 by Kevin Brown, the founder of Awin, one of the world’s best known affiliate marketing networks. Brown went on to form FanCircles to build direct-to-audience engagement infrastructure for the creator economy and the brands that invest in it.

“Most QR codes shown in creator-led YouTube campaigns still lead to a website or product page, which assumes the viewer is ready to buy in that moment,” said Kevin Brown, CEO of FanCircles. “On YouTube TV, that’s usually not true. PushPass turns QR scanning into a persistent connection and serves as a communication tool through lock screen notifications, all without an app install and with one click onboarding.”
