DAVIE, FLORIDA / ACCESSWIRE / January 20, 2025 / The David Posnack Jewish Community Center (DPJCC) is thrilled to announce a transformative partnership with UKG, whose generous support has bolstered the growth and success of the Merlie's Giborim United Giborim Adult Program (G.A.P.). Now in its third year, G.A.P. empowers adults ages 19 and older with intellectual and developmental disabilities, fostering their social, emotional, life, vocational, and recreational skills in a nurturing, inclusive environment.
"At UKG, we are committed to creating equitable opportunities for all people," said Heather Geronemus, Senior Director of Social Equity, Opportunity, and Impact at UKG. "Our partnership with the David Posnack JCC's Giborim Adult Program is a powerful example of how meaningful collaboration can empower individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to thrive. By supporting initiatives like this, we aim to break down barriers, enhance independence, and foster brighter, more equitable futures for everyone."
The G.A.P. program offers a diverse range of on-campus vocational training, such as setting up the senior lunchroom for lunch, cleaning gym equipment, sorting mail, and running GibGrub, a food delivery service within the DPJCC. Participants also gain real-world experience at B.J. Brewhouse in Pembroke Pines, building valuable skills and increasing their independence.
A key highlight of the program is the I-Function platform, an innovative virtual resource funded by UKG. This platform enhances cognitive and functional skills, helping participants master essential tasks like using ATMs, making online purchases, managing medications, and navigating public transportation. Ten participants are currently enrolled, practicing essential life skills, and the response has been overwhelmingly positive.
"We are grateful to UKG for their unwavering support, which is already making a profound difference in the lives of our participants," said Scott Ehrlich, CEO of the David Posnack JCC. "This partnership has empowered us to introduce innovative vocational training opportunities and the groundbreaking I-Function program, which enhances critical life skills, independence, and self-confidence among our participants. UKG's generosity has helped us pave the way for brighter futures for those in our care."
The Giborim Adult Program remains dedicated to fostering an inclusive, empowering environment for adults with disabilities. With UKG's support, the program is poised for continued success.
