NAPLES, FL / ACCESS Newswire / January 31, 2025 / The Electromagnetic Launch, Inc. (EML) high-temperature superconducting mass driver, designed to transform launch costs by an order of magnitude, continues to gather the leading talents in the high-energy physics and high-temperature superconducting communities.
Utilizing the patent pending designs from the EML and Robinson Research Institute physicists, Magnetics Corporation (MagCorp) has joined the team to manage the construction of the sub-scale model, to be followed by a mid-scale system by 2028. The group is in discussion with private capital partners and the State of Florida government for a first location in central Florida. A full-scale version has the capacity to transform launch economics, even in comparison to reusable rockets. With operating costs of just a few dollars per pound to orbit, projects such as Lunar commercialization, Mars settlement, shielded rotating space stations, and space-based solar become economically feasible.
"The addition of MagCorp to our team, bringing both expertise and their ability to project manage, was a cornerstone addition to the effort to transform launch economics," said David G Dillon, CEO and Founder of EML.
Electromagnetic Launch, Inc., has the world's premier and most experienced talent in high-energy physics and electromagnetic launch engineering.
"Frankly, with so many hype and PR-based projects in the world of electromagnetic launch, it was thrilling to find an effort that had gathered so many of the world's top experts," said Jeff Whalen, CEO of Magnetics Corporation. "The EML design is a breakthrough."
Victoria University of Wellington's Robinson Research Institute is a recognized world leader in superconducting magnet science and engineering.
MagCorp is powered by the world's leading experts in commercial superconductivity and magnetism with a partner network spanning the private sector, national labs, investment, and government.
Electromagnetic Launch, Inc. will attend the invitation-only, first-of-its-kind meeting of the Commercial Superconductivity Summit (CSS), hosted by MagCorp and ScGA at Neo City in Kissimmee, Florida, on February 11 and 12, 2025.
"Under Governor Ron DeSantis' decisive leadership, Florida continues to support strategic investments in high-demand industries, like advanced technologies, building confidence in our economy for job creators and job seekers," said Florida Secretary of Commerce J. Alex Kelly. "It is an exciting time for Florida, with the upcoming Commercial Superconductivity Summit serving as a catalyst for the next steps in the Florida superconductor and semiconductor industries."
