Notice of Data Breach

HONOLULU, HAWAII / ACCESS Newswire / April 9, 2025 / We are writing to inform our customers of a data security incident experienced by our organization, Business Insurance Services, Inc., that involved personal information as described below. We take the privacy and security of all information very seriously and are providing information about the incident and steps anyone can take to help protect their information. However, as we are unable to locate addresses for all individuals whose information was involved. As a result, we are issuing this public notice.

What Happened: On June 10, 2024, BISI became aware of potential unauthorized access to our network. Upon discovery, we promptly addressed the incident, which included engaging legal counsel and outside IT forensics specialists (at the direction of counsel) to investigate. After a thorough investigation, we learned that an unauthorized actor gained access to our systems on December 14, 2023, and then re-accessed our systems and acquired data without authorization between March 26-27, 2024. After a comprehensive and lengthy review of our records, we determined that the personal information of certain customers was affected by the incident.

What Information Was Involved: The types of information contained within the impacted data varies by individual, but includes first and last name, Social Security numbers, government identification cards, and financial information, including bank account numbers, routing numbers, payment card numbers.

What We Are Doing: Upon learning of the incident, we took immediate steps to address it, including securing our systems. We also retained legal counsel and engaged outside IT forensic specialists (via counsel) to assist.

We are taking this incident seriously. We have reported the incident to the appropriate regulatory bodies in Hawaii and other states as necessary. If you believe you may have been affected by this incident and have not received a notification from us, please do not hesitate to contact our dedicated assistance line through TransUnion at 1-800-405-6108, Monday through Friday, excluding major U.S. holidays to confirm eligibility and receive a credit monitoring code. If you have any questions regarding the incident, please do not hesitate to contact us.

What You Can Do: To date, we are not aware of any reports of identity fraud or fraudulent activity involving your information as a result of this incident. However, it is always prudent for persons to remain vigilant against incidents of identity theft and fraud by reviewing your credit reports and account statements for suspicious activity and to detect errors. If you discover any suspicious or unusual activity on your accounts, please promptly contact the financial institution or company. We have provided additional information below, which contains more information about steps you can take to help protect yourself against fraud and identity theft.
