Out of the Closet Stores Step Up Wildfire Relief

AHF’s SoCal thrift stores mount donation drive and 30% off weekend sale January 18th & 19th

AIDS Healthcare Foundation’s award-winning Southern California Out of the Closet (OTC) thrift stores will host a donation drive and 30% off everything-in-the-stores sale this weekend to raise funds for ongoing Los Angeles wildfire relief efforts. The OTC sale and donation drive takes place Saturday, January 18 and Sunday, January 19, and all monetary proceeds from the two-day sale and donation drive will go to fire relief.

Participating Out of the Closet stores include:

  • Atwater Village - 3160 Glendale Blvd., Los Angeles 90039
  • Glassell Park - 2425 N. San Fernando Road, Los Angeles 90065
  • Hollywood - 4905 Hollywood Blvd., Los Angeles 90027
  • Long Beach - 3500 Pacific Coast Highway, Long Beach 90804
  • West Hollywood - 8224 Santa Monica Blvd., West Hollywood 90046

Out of the Closet locations are open daily from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm.

Note: Donation drop offs are welcome at all locations, and donated clothing and other items will be for in-store resale, not for direct distribution to fire evacuees in Pasadena and from the Pacific Palisades fires.

On January 8th, Out of the Closet managers and staff purchased and delivered 100 new pillows and blankets to the Pasadena Convention Center for evacuees and delivered 16 boxes of clothing, amounting to approximately 1,400 much-needed items during the critical first hours.

Since January 7th, AHF’s Food for Health, a sister program of Out of the Closet, has provided more than 20,000 free hot meals to fire evacuees at the Pasadena Convention Center and first responders fighting the Palisades fire. At Will Rogers State Beach Wildfire Command Center, Food for Health is delivering easily held hot breakfast sandwiches and burritos, which then are packed up for transport to firefighters on the front lines.

AHF founded Out of the Closet thrift store chain in 1990 to help raise money for its HIV and AIDS testing and treatment services and now operates 25 stores in nine states. Ninety-six cents of every dollar spent at any Out of the Closet goes back into patient care.
