USAA Launches “Honor Through Action,” Committing $500 Million Over Five Years to Champion the Military Community

Movement will focus on meaningful careers, financial security and well-being for our nation’s veterans and military families

This Veterans Day, USAA is launching “Honor Through Action,” a national movement to ensure veterans and their families are celebrated, supported and advocated for every day of the year – not just on Veterans Day.

“For more than a century, USAA has advocated for those who serve,” said Juan C. Andrade, president and CEO of USAA. “Honor Through Action reflects our shared responsibility to act and help the military community thrive in every aspect of life – personally, professionally and financially. Supporting those who serve is not just what we do – it is who we are. It is how we take care of our own.”

USAA will honor and celebrate our military community through advocacy in action, fueled by a $500 million investment over the next five years into meaningful careers, financial security and well-being. This commitment will bring together partners across the public, private and nonprofit sectors to create meaningful, measurable change on the issues that matter most to veterans and their families.

Honor Through Action will position military families to thrive by focusing on three areas:

  • Meaningful Careers: USAA’s work will focus on helping veterans and military spouses build strong careers through career navigation, employer engagement, skills development and community support. Today, fewer than one in five transitioning service members feel fully prepared to secure civilian employment, and once employed, average tenure is less than a year, according to the Department of War’s Transition Assistance Program. In addition, the unemployment rate for military spouses remains four times higher than the civilian rate, according to Blue Star Families.
  • Financial Security: USAA will strengthen the financial security of the military community through effective education, trusted advice and tools that help families plan, prepare and respond to the unique needs of military life. While the 2024 USAA Military Financial Well-Being Index shows optimism and resilience across the community, financial pressures remain high – underscoring the importance of maintaining strong financial habits and making informed decisions.
  • Well-Being: Honor Through Action will build on our Face the Fight® initiative to prevent veteran suicide and expand support for physical health, caregiver support, community connection and the prevention of veteran homelessness.

“This work is essential – not only for the military community, but for the health, strength and security of our nation,” said Andrade. “Meaningful careers empower financial security – and together, those create the foundation for overall well-being. We want USAA to lead by example and inspire others to act because taking care of those who serve is a shared responsibility.”

USAA’s approach brings together policy influence, targeted philanthropy and research-driven advocacy to create meaningful, lasting change – strengthening the military community for generations to come.

To amplify the movement this Veterans Day, USAA is partnering with veterans and civilians across the country to share their stories and spark a national conversation. The goal is to help Americans better understand the realities of military life and how we can all go beyond thanks.

“The best way to celebrate veterans is to listen, act and invest in their future,” Andrade said. “That is exactly what we are doing by elevating their voices – not just today, but every day moving forward.”

Honor Through Action is our call to stand with the military community – alongside private, public and nonprofit partners – to turn gratitude into progress and purpose into impact. Learn more about Honor Through Action at usaa.com/veteransday and follow the conversation using #HonorThroughAction.
