The Schall Law Firm, a national shareholder rights litigation firm, announces that it is investigating claims on behalf of parents of children who watched Disney videos on YouTube. The Walt Disney Company (“Disney” or “the Company”) (NYSE: DIS) allegedly violated COPPA ("Children's Online Privacy Protection Act") by collecting the private data of children under 13 who watched videos the Company posted to YouTube without parental consent.
The investigation focuses on whether the Company violated the rights of parents of children under the age of 13 according to COPPA rules. The DOJ claims that Disney violated COPPA by failing to obtain parental consent to collect personal information from minors. According to the DOJ, Disney failed to label certain YouTube videos as “Made for Kids,” which in turn allowed the Company to collect the personal details of viewers under the age of 13 which were used to target them with advertising. The DOJ claims Disney continued this practice even after it was made aware of the improper data collection. If your children watched Disney content on YouTube while they were under the age of 13, your family may have been impacted by Disney’s practices.
