Apis & Heritage Capital Partners (A&H) is proud to announce the conversion of B and B Maintenance, Inc., a leading Illinois-based provider of janitorial services with a legacy spanning more than 40 years, into a 100% employee stock ownership plan (ESOP) company. This transaction marks A&H’s largest portfolio company to date in terms of workforce size and demonstrates a continued commitment to scaling businesses that create lasting impact for their workers and communities through broad based employee ownership.
Founded in 1979, B and B Maintenance (B and B) has built a reputation for quality and competitive pricing that is guided by its mission of “Servicing Beyond Expectations.” The company serves blue-chip customers across approximately 20 states and employs over 1,100 full-time and part-time team members to deliver services ranging from deep cleaning to building enhancements.
B and B Maintenance will work with A&H to leverage A&H’s unique Employee-Led Buyout (ELBO) model, which gives every full-time worker “skin in the game.” Throughout this process, A&H will work closely with management and employees to strengthen the company’s culture of efficiency, resiliency, and respect by utilizing A&H’s Ownership Culture Framework, which emphasizes helping employees understand the ESOP and enabling effective input across the organization.
“We are honored to invest in a firm like B and B Maintenance that provides such an essential service to so many companies, local government facilities, educational entities, hospitals, and many other types of organizations around the country,” said Jason Ollison, Partner at A&H and new B and B Board Member. “As the pandemic emphasized to all of us, our society and economy require that we have clean, healthy, and hygienic spaces within which to live, learn, and conduct business. We are delighted to play this role in bringing employee ownership to the workers of this firm and collaborating with its leadership to further strengthen the company going forward.”
As the sixth and largest company in A&H’s portfolio, B and B Maintenance’s transition to employee ownership will serve as a case study in equipping a large cohort of workers across multiple states with a proven wealth-building tool.
The B and B transaction was facilitated by a facility maintenance investment group, Neatland Holdings (“Neatland”), which will remain in a management capacity at B and B. Neatland brings extensive operational and management experience in the commercial cleaning industry. After the acquisition, members of the Neatland team assumed key leadership roles at B and B: Daniel Ik-Obazee as President and Terry Cooley as Human Resources Senior Advisor.
“We are excited to build on the strong foundation of B and B with Apis & Heritage. We believe that employee ownership will empower our workforce and drive long-term success for everyone involved,” said Daniel Ik-Obazee, B and B Maintenance.
