Global education provider Kaplan will host a free webinar on January 27 at 1 PM ET with Dr. Somi Javaid, board-certified OB/GYN, surgeon, and founder of women’s health innovator HerMD. The event, “Menopause Matters: The Case for Better Menopause Care to Improve Women’s Midlife Health,” will focus on closing critical gaps in menopause education and highlight why better menopause care is essential for women’s health.
The webinar will underscore the urgent need for stronger provider education on menopause. In one study, 93% of medical residents say they strongly agree that residents nationwide should have access to a standardized menopause curriculum that could be utilized in their programs, but only 31% of OB/GYN residency programs offer dedicated menopause training. The consequences are far-reaching:
- Health Risks: Menopause symptoms can accelerate long-term risks to bone, brain, and heart health—with up to 20% of bone loss occurring during the transition.
- Economic Impact: Unaddressed symptoms lead to steep productivity losses, costing the U.S. $1.8 billion annually—and $26.6 billion when medical expenses are included.
- Treatment Gap: Despite decades of evidence supporting hormone therapy’s safety and effectiveness, usage has plunged to historic lows, with fewer than 4% of women ages 50–59 using it in 2023.
Dr. Somi Javaid said:
“It is time to recognize that menopause can have serious consequences if left undiagnosed and untreated. Providers must be equipped with evidence-based education to guide women toward personalized treatment pathways grounded in today’s data, not yesterday’s myths. The future of medicine demands prevention, not pursuit, of disease. Ignoring menopause education is no longer an option—the consequences are too great.”
The event is supported by in-kind sponsor dotted…, which is committed to supporting evidence-based menopause education and forging strategic relationships across the healthcare industry to advance care for women at midlife and beyond.
According to an Ipsos poll conducted on behalf of Kaplan, nearly half of all medical school students report they used a Kaplan product or service during their academic career.
