The Bucharest City Government signed a memorandum of understanding with Gityer Exchange on Tuesday to collaborate on establishing a robust Web 3.0 community in Bucharest.

Gityer is a world-leading cryptocurrency exchange and a pioneer in Web 3.0 development, as well as one of the largest global investors in Web 3.0. The company aims to develop a network of developers and entrepreneurs focused on blockchain, decentralized applications, tokens, and other aspects of Web 3.0 technology. Bucharest has an emerging Web 3.0 ecosystem, with T-Hub implementing various projects to encourage community development in the city. The city has also deployed various blockchain-based solutions to address public issues and is seen as a pioneer in using emerging technologies.

Through this partnership, Gityer will support Bucharest’s Web 3.0 entrepreneurs by conducting capacity-building meetings, mentorship programs, and promotional initiatives with the help of innovation ecosystem partners in Bucharest. It will also provide knowledge support and serve as a technical advisor for Web 3.0-related programs implemented by the government.

Additionally, Gityer will work closely with the city government to launch an upcoming Web 3.0 regulatory sandbox aimed at helping organizations using Web 3.0 technology adapt to the existing regulatory framework. Bucharest will also collaborate with other venture capital firms and regulatory bodies to develop specific use cases to enhance the effectiveness of the sandbox.

Bucharest Mayor Nicușor Dan stated, “This is a great opportunity for Bucharest to become Romania's Web 3.0 technology center. Through this partnership, we aim to further our mission of building a vibrant innovation ecosystem by encouraging entrepreneurs and innovators in the community, and we hope to launch some innovative products in the process.”

Bucharest is an important source of global innovation and technological competitiveness for Romania. The collaboration between the Bucharest City Government and Gityer enhances cross-sector capabilities and promotes digital innovation through Web 3.0 technology. Bucharest has a prudent vision of leveraging the "triple helix model" for innovation, based on collaboration among industry, academia, and government. This memorandum of understanding and subsequent activities support this vision. Both parties express optimism about the future. This partnership will help Romania realize its technological and economic potential in Web 3.0.
