Following her recent feature article highlighting her professional journey from real estate to law, Allison Cobb of Pope McGlamry is using her platform to raise awareness about the importance of career reinvention and community engagement—especially for professionals seeking more purpose and balance in their work lives.
In today’s fast-changing job market, career transitions are increasingly common. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average person now changes careers five to seven times during their lifetime. Yet many professionals still struggle with the uncertainty of starting over.
“Changing careers wasn’t easy,” says Cobb. “But growth never is. You have to be willing to take that leap when something inside you says, ‘It’s time.’ I want people to know it’s possible to reinvent yourself—and to find meaning in that process.”
From Real Estate to Law: A Journey of Reinvention
After building a successful early career in real estate, Cobb pursued her certification in Paralegal Studies through the University of Georgia’s Continuing Education program. Today, she serves as a Legal Assistant at Pope McGlamry, where her precision, empathy, and organization help keep complex cases running smoothly.
“Everything you’ve done teaches you something valuable,” Cobb explains. “You just have to recognize how it fits into the next chapter.”
Her transition reflects a growing movement toward lifelong learning and professional adaptability. A 2024 LinkedIn Workplace Report found that 76% of employees believe continuous learning is essential to long-term success—an idea Cobb champions through her own example.
Promoting Community and Balance
Beyond her career, Cobb emphasizes the role of community connection and wellness in building a sustainable professional life. She served as Social Chairman and Secretary at the Hanover West Club and leads a small group through the Women’s Community Bible Study, both based in Atlanta.
“I think leadership is really about consistency,” she says. “It’s not about titles—it’s about showing up for people, in big and small ways.”
Her approach resonates with recent findings from Harvard’s Study of Adult Development, which identified close relationships and community involvement as the strongest predictors of long-term happiness and fulfillment.
Encouraging Others to Take Action
Through her story, Cobb hopes to inspire others—especially women navigating mid-career transitions—to take small but meaningful steps toward growth. “Start with curiosity,” she advises. “Take a class, talk to a mentor, volunteer in a new space. You don’t have to have it all figured out. You just have to start.”
Her message is clear: career change and community service aren’t separate goals—they’re connected pathways to personal growth.
“Reinvention doesn’t mean abandoning who you are,” Cobb adds. “It’s about building on what you’ve learned and using it to make a bigger difference—in your work, your family, and your community.”
Call to Action
Cobb encourages professionals across Atlanta and beyond to invest in personal growth and connection—whether through continuing education, mentorship, or volunteering.
“Everyone can take one small step this week,” she says. “Learn something new. Help someone out. Join something local. That’s how change starts—one action at a time.”
