London, United Kingdom Jun 6, 2022 (Issuewire.com) - Esteemed label Ruff DNB returns with Transmogrification, the latest EP from DJ and producer Piker. Hailing from the West Midlands, Piker has built his name as a mainstay of Astrobass Recordginz and releases on RW Digital and Phantom Dub.
Transmogrification uses the theme of science fiction as its jump-off point. Its bass lines are mutated and stretched, while the sample choice adds an eerie atmosphere to the tunes. It's clear that Piker is a talented producer with the ability to synthesise his external influences into the music.
The title track, 'Transmogrification', opens the EP. Here, warbled bass lines are the main feature, which Piker layers with various tones. It all combines to create a spooky, low-end symphony, echoed samples playing out intermittently alongside the sonic palette.
'Mars Attacks (VIP)' lives up to its name. Rapid drum lines skitter across the speakers, with bugged-out samples and ominous synth lines setting an uncanny atmosphere. Eventually, heavy bass patterns stomp through the speakers with a brain-melting effect.
'Rendelsham' leads with supercharged riffs and ominous background melodies, 'Phantoms' is an explosion of cutting bass tones, and 'NSFW' is a no-nonsense banger with acute rhythmic programming.
'Mars Attacks' closes out Transmogrification. Much like the VIP version, it's a cosmic take on drum & bass. The original version features a slight variation in the opening moments, yet one thing remains: this is a heavyweight tune designed to detonate speakers.
Transmogrification will arrive on all digital platforms on 15th July.
