Chase Buchanan Forges Ahead With Expansions in Canada, France and Portugal

The specialists in wealth management and financial advice for international expatriates, Chase Buchanan Private Wealth Management, have confirmed their latest extensions to the firm’s already substantial global teams, with new professionals joining its branches in Canada, France and Portugal.

This news follows previous improvements to capacity across Europe and North America, the recruitment of new advisers in Spain, and the company’s recognition as an International Professional Partner Firm of the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII).

The Ongoing Expansion of Chase Buchanan Private Wealth Management

Chase Buchanan achieved its position as International Professional Partner Firm earlier this year and is now the only globally focused expatriate advisory business to hold this status, demonstrating the level of skill, specialist support and international know-how the company offers its clients.

Speaking on behalf of Chase Buchanan, Lee Eldridge, Group CEO and Head of Investment Advisory, said, ‘It’s been fantastic to welcome three high-calibre Private Wealth Managers to our advisory teams, each of whom will be focusing their time in a different location, including our Canadian team in Toronto, and our European offices in Bordeaux, France and Quarteira, Portugal.’

Each of the three new advisers brings a unique skill set and experience to the group, including:

  • Expertise in country-specific relocations, providing strategic cross-border financial and investment advice to assist in the management of complex portfolios, tax optimisation, and long-term retirement planning.
  • Previous roles assisting expatriates with assets across domestic and international markets, creating private and corporate portfolio management strategies and ensuring expat clients can navigate complex pensions and overseas transfers.

Eldridge goes on to explain that ‘We’ve been focused on building our advisory and support teams over a sustained period, primarily owing to the consistent demand for independent wealth management assistance. More and more expats are reaching out for professional guidance around managing their affairs, relocations, assets, tax exposures and investment portfolios in an increasingly complicated global tax landscape.’

Reasons Behind the Increasing Need for Independent Expatriate Wealth Management Support

Cross-border relocations have always existed, but in recent years the need for reliable and personalised financial assistance has soared, particularly following wide-scope tax reforms which have occurred in multiple countries, impacting both inbound foreign nationals, visa applicants, and existing residents.

Requests for expert wealth management naturally spiked once borders reopened following the pandemic, but haven't slowed down or returned to previous levels. One of the factors includes the introduction of digital nomad visas, which attract professionals and entrepreneurs looking for tax-friendly schemes to enable them to relocate, temporarily or permanently.

Another aspect has been the major changes in the US and UK governing parties and taxation policies, where enquiries from American citizens looking to relocate overseas have climbed 138% year on year. A reported 16,500 high-net-worth individuals have also moved or plan to move abroad following changes to UK legislation around domiciliary statuses and inheritance tax.

There have, in addition, been sweeping reforms to citizenship by investment, or golden passport visas, previously a popular solution for wealthy individuals and families looking to reestablish themselves in a low-tax overseas environment.

Legal action taken by the European Court of Justice led to the closure of multiple schemes, tighter visa eligibility criteria, and the removal of permits that allowed investors an automatic right to citizenship solely based on financial contributions.

All of these elements have combined to drive demand for high-quality financial advice, with expats now more aware than ever about how valuable this is to protect their wealth, avoid unnecessary tax liabilities and make intelligent decisions about managing their investments, assets and tax positions.

How Chase Buchanan Has Reacted to Growing Interest in Expat Wealth Management Services

Eldridge explains that ‘We exist to serve our international client bases, and as client numbers grow, so do we. Alongside introducing the three new Wealth Managers today, we're working behind the scenes on onboarding equally accomplished new team members in both Portugal and the US and look forward to sharing that news once their positions are official later in the year.

Our advisers also continue to publish numerous free resources through our Knowledge Bank, downloadable tax, residency and pension guides, and our YouTube channel as part of our coordinated efforts to ensure all expats have the facts they need to make informed decisions about their financial futures.’
