Physical fitness, sleep and nutrition are frequently mentioned as necessary to live a healthy, productive and balanced life. Yet they are rarely mentioned as being necessary and critical when pursuing business goals. Business owners can greatly benefit by learning how to apply these health elements to achieve even greater success in their businesses.
Faster Goal Achievement
Fitness will actually help you achieve your goals faster. A lot of people tend to think that they have to focus all of their energy towards what they’re building, towards their businesses and they let themselves go. What they don’t realize is that they need to be well in order to achieve what they’re going to achieve.
The other things that people don’t think about is number one, it’s a stress reliever. It helps reduce your overall stress. And number two, it’s a good way for you to get new, fresh and innovative ideas because you’re not directly obsessively thinking about your obstacles. Your brain is still working subconsciously. It’s as if you’ve got apps working in the background while you’re focusing on something else. Then all of a sudden, you get these brilliant ideas because you’re not solely focused on your business.
It’s a misconception to believe that you are taking away from your business, you’re not wasting time away from working on your business. You’re actually helping it grow because you’re making yourself healthy and you’re making yourself a priority. And it makes your brain clearer You think better because it lowers your stress.
So, many people have this idea that they’ll start taking care of themselves later after they reach their goals. Sometimes they do reach their goals and they think it’s because they put themselves on the back burner. But usually, it’s in spite of the fact that they put themselves on the back burner.
It’s so important because you don’t get spare parts for your body. Ultimately you have to live in your body for the rest of your life and if you want it to be long and healthy and you want to feel good in your own skin, then you have to take care of yourself. You can’t think of yourself last because you can’t pour from an empty cup.
Starting and maintaining a fitness routine seems to be a challenge for most people. Both genders have their own challenges. Women tend to be a lot more negative and harder on themselves to the point that it stops them completely. Men tend to go too hard, really fast and they burn out or sometimes even injure themselves.
Hydrate Your Muscles and Your Brain
Water is another important element in fitness that’s frequently neglected. It’s a known fact that most people don’t drink enough water. They don’t hydrate their muscles enough. Most people don’t realize that their brain is also a muscle. And if they want their brain to work optimally, they need to drink more water.
So, to flush out toxins and flush out fat and flush out all of the things that you do not want, you have to have more water. Also, to be able to have your stomach digest the food properly, you need to have enough water to work properly. You need to have enough water. It’s completely misunderstood how important it is.
Must Have Fun
But another thing that people forget about, which is actually really important, is making time to play. Most people don’t put having fun on their schedule. And when they don’t do that, that’s when all of a sudden that donut looks good, or they want to binge watch Netflix instead of going to the gym. All because they didn’t actually put fun into their schedule. In other words, they feel deprived.
Patience is Necessary
I would say the number one myth people have when starting a fitness program is that they think that it will happen automatically because they want it really bad. It just doesn’t work like that. You have to schedule it; you have to plan it. You have to make it a priority, wanting it is not enough to actually make it happen in your life.
Think about it, how long did it take to get the belly fat? We live in a microwave society, and we think that we should have things right away. But if you can just notice the small wins as you’re going along, then you keep going and eventually you will have those six pack abs, if that’s your goal. Also, most people think that they have to do more sit ups when actually it’s changing their diet that will get them to their goals faster.
Get Your Zzzz’s
A conversation about fitness would be incomplete without talking about sleep and sleep deprivation. According to the Sleep Foundation, 35.2% of all adults in the U.S. report sleeping on average for less than seven hours per night.
People really underestimate the power of sleep. I hate the saying “I’ll sleep when I die”, because you’re going to die quicker if you don’t sleep enough. And people don’t realize that their brain builds up plaque during the day and while they’re sleeping, it clears out that plaque in their brain.
It helps with early onset dementia; it helps with Alzheimer’s. It helps with just being able to problem solve and think clearly in general. Most people don’t realize how much lack of sleep affects their brain, let alone their entire body.
A lack of sleep slows down your motor skills. It slows down your problem-solving skills. It slows everything down. So, people really underestimate the power of sleep and how important it is to regenerate the body. How else can your body recover from the day if it doesn’t have a chance to rest? It is so important, and it’s completely undervalued by so many people. It’s actually one of the best things you can do for your overall health.
Three Tips to Help Enhance Your Fitness Plan:
1 -Schedule playtime. It seems counterintuitive to schedule it but be sure to schedule playtime. Schedule having fun because it’s not going to happen if you don’t schedule it. Especially if you’re an entrepreneur. But if you schedule it in, it will actually happen. Otherwise, your bucket list remains a list forever. It never actually happens.
2 -Make sure to drinking water throughout the day. Make sure to drink water throughout the day. It’s possible to drink gallons of water and still be dehydrated because your electrolytes are off. If your electrolytes are off the water doesn’t actually get into your cells. So, you have to make sure that your electrolytes are properly replenished. And how do you do that? You can use an electrolyte tablet in the morning. You can add a little bit of sea salt to the water, not to the point where you taste it, but add it to the water so that your cells will have the opportunity to actually absorb what you’re drinking instead of just leaving your body after you drink it.
3 -Get up and move. Just because you go to the gym three times a week, doesn’t mean you’re getting enough movement. You can’t sit down constantly and think that you’re doing well because you work out hard three times a week. You need to get up and move around the office during the day. It’s not enough to go to the gym you need to include basic movement. Standing up, sitting down, walking around, walking your dog, if you need to, that’s the kind of movement I’m talking about.
Also, when you’re working out, it doesn’t have to be hour long, intense sessions, five times a week. You can get a really good workout for 30 minutes. It doesn’t have to be an all or nothing mentality. So, if you don’t have an hour to work out and only have 30 minutes, then use that time.
That’s good. You should celebrate that. Be sure to celebrate all of your small wins, because it’s about the journey, not the destination. If you can enjoy where you are now, how do you expect to enjoy when you get to your goal?
There is a saying by personal trainers that goes,” I can’t do your pushups for you.” So ultimately it is the client’s job to do the work. But that being said, as a personal trainer myself, I believe I hold the vision of who my client wants to be and mirror that back to them until they can see it in themselves. I guide them, I tell them how to do what they want to do and cheer them on while they’re doing it.
