Economic Recovery Concerns Sink Stocks

Concerns that soaring crude oil prices will stall the global economic recovery sent the markets tumbling to a sharply lower close with the Dow plummeting 168 points to 12,058. Nasdaq sank 44 points to 2737.

On the upside

PNM Resources (NYSE: PNM) widened fourth quarter losses but the energy company forecast 2011 earnings above estimates.

Rising silver prices lifted shares of Silvercorp Metals (NYSE: SVM).
