Markets Advance At Midday

The markets advanced during the midday with the Dow gaining 68 points to 11,129 despite uncertainty about the global economy. Nasdaq soared 38 points to 2533.

On the upside

US Airways (NYSE: LCC) announced that September unit revenue was expected to increase by 13%.

Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL) will reduce seating capacity next year by 2% to 3% from current levels.

United Continental (NYSE: UAL) will add 25 new planes to its fleet next year.


On the downside


Ancestry.com (Nasdaq: ACOM) hired Duncan/Channon to develop a new comprehensive advertising campaign for the online family history resource but the stock price fell.


Shares of Silvercorp Metals (NYSE: SVM) continued falling after the British Columbia Securities Commission announced on Friday an investigation into Silvercorp for alleged fraud.


Coffee Holding (Nasdaq: JVA) disappointed with lower third quarter earnings .


In the broad market, advancing issues outpaced decliners by a margin of more than 5 to 2 on the NYSE and by nearly 3 to 1 on Nasdaq. The Russell 2000 which tracks small cap stocks soared 11 points to 691.
