The Dow fell 71.5 points on Wednesday, as the market was dragged down by energy and industrial stocks. Oil prices slid as crude futures fell 1.8% to $105.41 per barrel, briefly dropping below $105 in midday trading. Durable goods orders also rose less than expected in February, helping drag stocks lower.
Caterpillar (CAT) was the largest decliner in the Dow, falling 3.5%; Alcoa (AA) dropped 2.3%.
Oil stocks fell hard as the commodity dropped, but other energy stocks also had a rough day. Chesapeake Energy (CHK) fell 4.1% and Peabody Energy (BTU) dropped 3.4%.
