Technology pioneer in smart irrigation control continues to drive water-conserving innovations
PRLog - Aug 27, 2013 - DALLAS -- Weathermatic, the pioneer and market leader in smart weather-based irrigation control, has received the EPA WaterSense label for its SmartLine weather-based irrigation control system.  When used with a SLW On-Site Weather Station, all SmartLine controllers will carry the EPA WaterSense label.   WaterSense labeled products are independently certified to meet standards for efficiency and performance. You can learn more about WaterSense labeling for Smart Irrigation Controllers here: http://www.epa.gov/WaterSense/products/controltech.html

Weathermatic was the first manufacturer to release an ET-based smart irrigation control system with the SmartLine Controller in 2001.   Since that time more than 250,000 SmartLine controllers have been installed in 85 countries.  The SmartLine control system is rated as a Consumer’s Digest Best Buy and has been the irrigation system of choice on many high profile properties including Dallas Cowboys Stadium, Pearl Harbor and the residence of former US President George W. Bush.

Currently installed SmartLine controllers can meet WaterSense requirements by adding an SLW On-Site Weather Station.  Adding SmartLink web-based control provides the additional benefit of remote access to your controller from any internet connection along with email alerts and water use reporting to track savings.  Check out the details on affordable web-based irrigation control at http://www.smartlinknetwork.com.

With rising water costs and increasing scrutiny on landscape irrigation use, many property owners are looking for water-saving alternatives.  The EPA estimates that as much as 50 percent of landscape water is wasted due to overwatering caused by inefficiencies in irrigation methods and systems. Irrigation control technologies can significantly reduce overwatering by applying water only when plants need it.

Smart irrigation systems take into account weather, soil, plant and seasonal conditions and can save 20-60% in outdoor water use while helping assure landscape beauty.  These systems use evapotranspiration (ET) formulas that account for the rate of evaporation and condensation in particular plants and the replacement need based on geographic requirements.   They also account for the rate of absorption for different types of soils and the associated sprinkler output rates.   Some utility districts provide variances from watering day restrictions in cases where ET-based Smart Controllers are installed.

Weathermatic has launched efforts with several Fortune 100 firms to leverage technology and support services to save, in some cases, billions of gallons of water annually for these businesses.  According to Mike Mason, CEO of Weathermatic, “EPA WaterSense approval adds support to the market leadership and innovation that Weathermatic has in this Smart Control category.  We are deeply committed to landscape sustainability technology and practices and continue to believe weather-based irrigation has the potential to save a tremendous amount water for our customers and improve landscape health.”
