Plastic Surgeon In Miami Explains What Happens If Breast Implants Deflate Or Rupture

The Plastic Surgeon Miami, based in Miramar, Florida, has announced that they have recently published a blog post to explain what happens if breast implants deflate or rupture. Dr. Ramiro Morales, the plastic surgeon in Miami, points out that saline implants have been found to rupture about half of a percent per year. When this happens, the saline is absorbed by the body, resulting in a decrease in size. Meanwhile, it is not exactly known how often silicone implants rupture because when they do, they simply stay in the capsule pocket.

Dr. Ramiro Morales says, “Many people ask what leads to implant rupture. It is really when the implant folds up on each other and rubs and leads to a fold flop. There is a way to for you to prevent fold flops. First, do not put an implant in that is not going to fit in the pocket. It is going to get smashed and rub on itself. Implant manufacturers have done a great job in the last ten to fifteen years changing the design of the implant so we have more options for an individual’s anatomy. That is very important. They have taken to filling the implants with more gel. This prevents it from folding over and that is a great idea. In the saline world, there’s an implant called the ideal implant. They have three shells inside of each other that really help keep things from folding over. Their fold flaw is almost negligible.”

To ensure that the implants are intact, the FDA recommends that women who have undergone breast augmentation, get an MRI every two to three years. However, this is not a common practice among those who have undergone the procedure. The result is that they usually return only when they have a problem with something. And for those who are concerned that the implants may pop or rupture during a car accident or while undergoing mammogram, it rarely happens. If it does happen, it means that the machine had altered the capsule for the implant.

The services offered at The Plastic Surgeon Miami include breast augmentation, breast reduction, breast lift, abdominoplasty, liposuction, face lift, eyelid surgery, fillers, and Botox. Breast augmentation, of course, is about improving the breasts to a more flattering shape and size. Because Dr. Morales is an experienced plastic surgeon, women can be assured of having breasts that are proportional and have much better aesthetics.

Breast augmentation is done by placing saline or silicone implants and the type of implant that will be used will depend on several factors, which is why an initial consultation is required. Through this consultation, it is ascertained that the implants to be used are the most appropriate for the woman’s body type and age. Breast augmentation can have several results: increased breast size; lifting of the breasts; correction of the shape of the breasts; fix for a hanging breast; making the size of both breasts equal; and correction of the reduced breast size after pregnancy or major weight loss.

The opposite of breast augmentation is breast reduction, which is used to remedy disproportionately huge breasts. The procedure may also be needed because there are also health problems that can result from having too large breasts, such as pain at the back of the neck, breathing problems, and difficulty in performing physical exercises.

Meanwhile, the breast lift procedure involves tightening the areola and surrounding tissues within the breast and then getting rid of the excess skin. This results into a raised and firm breast, with a younger look and a well-rounded shape.

Dr. Morales graduated from the University of South Florida College of Medicine. Later, he finished his general and plastic surgery residencies at the University of Illinois at Chicago. After that, he returned to Florida to accept the position of vice chief of surgery at Memorial Hospital West and to establish his own private practice.
