If ‘Netflix and chill’ is your only idea for an at-home date night, then let’s hope that heartbreak isn’t nearby rubbing its hands in anticipation of its next victim! In the last couple of months, we have been stuck indoors trying to protect ourselves and our loved ones. However, during this time, divorce rates have also been rising due to some families spending more time at home. So how can you keep the love flames aglow in your relationship with limited places to go and fewer activities to do out of the house? Here are some at-home date night ideas you should try.

  • The little things still work

Sometimes, we are forced to think that we have to bring the moon to our partners every day to impress them during a date night, but the smallest things still speak the loudest. These little things have very effective ways of lightening up any emotional environment. For example, a Valentine Day flower is always for a special occasion, and nothing should change that. However, there is nothing wrong with making flowers a regular part of not only your date nights but your daily lives as well. Doing the little things like sending your partner naughty texts during dates or waking them up the next day to a beautiful flower by their pillow and a note reading, “I love you” are bound to make your partner happy and keep the relationship spicy. Do not forget to do the little things, and be spontaneous about them during your dates.

  • Cook a meal together

Many couples shy away from this tip simply because they have not gathered enough confidence in the kitchen. But you do not need to be the next Gordon Ramsay to master the courage you need to cook a gourmet meal with your partner. Thanks to different food blogs, websites and the good old recipe books, there are several romantic dinner ideas you can try at home with your partner. So, go ahead and try whipping up simple and romantic meals together. Your meals may not have restaurant-level finishing, but that is not important. The experience of cooking together allows both of you to have a fun time together before your dinner.

  • Give your dining room a restaurant-style feel

When you are done preparing your dinner, it is time to set the table. Even though you are at home, you can still create a romantic dinner setting by giving your dining room a restaurant-like feel. Pick out a bottle of your favorite wine, put a nice table cloth over your dining table, light a couple of candles, decorate it with some roses, and set your table. To make the environment even more romantic, turn on some soft music and let it waft through the air as you enjoy your meal. You may have seen it played out several times in different movies, but the effect is always the same. And it is time for you to give it a try.

  • Backyard camping date

If you are looking for one more reason to redo your backyard garden, then this is it – a backyard camping date. You do not need to be a lover of the outdoors to try this. Unlike the regular camping experience, it is more comfortable, and you are basically at home. A backyard camping date is an excellent idea for a date night. The great thing about this date night idea is that you can even spend the whole night in your backyard without worrying about the time, safety, or food! You could take a bottle of wine and stay up all night star-gazing, talking, or cuddling.

  • Have a game night

Playing games together might not be the first thing that comes to mind if you are looking for date night ideas, but, at home, this can be great- plus, it easily follows the tips we have given so far; you have whipped up your favorite meal together, enjoyed it in your romance-themed dining room, and taken the rest of the date out to your backyard. What do you do next? You can play a game. Playing a game together gives the two of you another opportunity to spend quality time together, competing against each other. Whether you opt for traditional board games or online games, the kind of game to play should depend on the two of you. The important thing is that you have fun and connect.

  • Try a Spa Night at Home

Time to show some physical affection and put your fingers to more work. You can create a romantic spa night at home (only without the professional experience) and take turns giving each other a good body massage – whatever follows naturally from that is a pure bonus. With the help of a few YouTube tutorials, you would be able to give your partner a sensational relaxing massage. And even if you still suck at it, your inexperience will only add to the fun and ensure that you have a good time. Perhaps, you are not feeling too touchy. Then, you can simply relax in your bathrobes, with face masks on, slices of cucumber over your eyes, and enjoying some good music. You could also try soaking together in your bathtub as your bodies enjoy the soothing effects of a bath bomb or bath salt, with glasses of wine within reach and good music playing in the background, or one partner reading a novel out to the other

  • Try a hobby together

Another way to enjoy a nice date night at home is by taking on a new hobby together. You can both try your hands on painting or some DIY projects. The purpose here is not to be perfect at it, but to enjoy some quality time together. One great thing about trying a DIY project together is that you will be left with its memories.

You probably had a lot of exciting date nights planned before the Coronavirus came around. However, being at home is still a plus. Not only do you get to save money, but you get to try unique ideas and have fun doing them with your partner- what a fantastic way to spice things up.
