Women are disproportionately affected by pandemic-related job losses.

Data from The Bureau of Labor Statistics showed that in 2020, two million women left the labor force, one million more than men. Women of color are significantly more affected. While the unemployment rate for women overall is 6.3%, it is 8.4% for black women and 9.1% for Hispanic women.

Among unemployed women, almost 40% have been out of work for six months or longer. During this time of limited childcare and a desire for more flexibility, women are turning to side hustles for a paycheck. Sanjana Vig MD, MBA of The Female Professional, offers “Breaking Barriers,” a free virtual conference on Sunday, March 7th. This workshop aims to not only show women that it’s possible but provides the resources to immediately hit the ground running with a small business idea.

“As the CEO of a startup and creator of two websites, I understand the struggles of getting started with your own business. It can be so overwhelming to figure out the initial steps and critical pieces in the early years. This virtual event features the knowledge, advice, and tools I wish I had when I started my ventures,” said Sanjana Vig MD, MBA, Founder of The Female Professional.

This first annual workshop features 20-minute break-out sessions with 12 experts. Participants will leave each session empowered to overcome specific business obstacles and with a template or guide with real, actionable steps.
