Glycerides are compounds formed by esterification of glycerol and one to three fatty acids. As a professional supplier of various fatty acids and lipids, Alfa Chemistry recently announces to launch a comprehensive collection of glycerides, both saturated and unsaturated, to support relevant research projects.

Glycerides are generated when glycerol is modified at one (monoglycerides), two (diglycerides) or all three (triglycerides or fats) of its hydroxyl (OH) functional groups by esterification with a fatty acid. Glycerides are the primary component of animal fats and vegetable oils.

“The primary function of glycerides is to serve as fat storage molecules. They may be classified based on the number of fatty acids reacting with glycerol. The fatty acids can react with one, two, or all three of the hydroxyl functional groups of the glycerol to form monoglycerides, diglycerides, or triglycerides, respectively,” says a spokesman from Alfa Chemistry. “The analysis of glycerides is primarily important to the food and nutrition industries for tasks such as authenticating edible oils, designing foods with certain physical properties, and studying how fats are digested and absorbed.”

At Alfa Chemistry, a wide range of glycerides are available and can be easily obtained to serve different research purposes.

Some of the saturated glycerides are: wool wax, stearin, ester with pentaerythritol, 1,3-Dipentadecanoin, glyceryl stearate, 3-stearoyl-sn-glycerol, triundecanoin, monopalmitin, dibehenin, distearin succinate and more.

Some of the unsaturated glycerides are: tridocosahexaenoin, 1-monoolein, alpha-peroxyachifolid, triolein, alpha-kolomiktriose, glyceryl tripetroselinate, tripetroselaidin, 2,5-bis-(trifluoromethyl)iodobenzene, gamma-glutamyl histamine and more.
