Huawei’s Re-launch of Mate 40E with 4G Due to Chip Shortage

By: Get News

The fifth member of Huawei’s Mate40 family originally supported 5G technology. It was just re-launched as a 4G variant, which is rumored to be the consequence of chip shortage caused by disrupted trade with the US.

Huawei’s Mate 40E garnered a lot of attention, mainly due to its 5G chip that only a handful of models can boast about, such as iPhone’s 12 Pro Max, Samsung’s Galaxy S21 Ultra, Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, and OnePlus 9 Pro.

The re-launched version of Mate 40E will be supplied with a 4G chip instead, complemented with the Kirin 9000 chip, eight gigabytes of RAM, and 128 & 256-gigabyte storage options; the original features Kirin 990E 5G chipset and offers roughly the same level of performance memory-wise.

Rumors indicate that the motivation behind the re-launch of this smartphone was the shortage of Kirin 990E chips. Namely, Huawei was unable to maintain a steady production of 5G microchips without American semiconductors. After the US imposed a trade embargo on China, the acquisition of semiconductors in adequate quantities was impossible on such short notice.

The re-launched Mate 40 is slightly weaker, but it’s also cheaper than the original. According to Research Snipers, this was not the only plan Huawei had in terms of releasing budget-friendly smartphones.

Research Snipers had caught wind of a brand-new Huawei smartphone that is presumably scheduled for the winter of 2021. As expected of one of the biggest names in the smartphone industry, Huawei’s new phone is expected to offer a dual-camera mounted on its back, strong specs, and a robust CPU packed in a lightweight case. The source adds that the device is expected to feature a dual-camera setup on the backside, utilizing a 13 MP primary sensor plus a secondary 2 MP sensor. The product’s size is 163.93 × 75.79 × 8.95 mm, while the weight is 198 g.

Just like the re-launched Mate 40E, this new Huawei smartphone is expected to support 4G cellular networks and multiple memory upgrade options. It’s presumed to feature an octa-core CPU, microSD card sockets, and at least a handful of features most Huawei smartphones are famous for, including a Fingerprint sensor, an accelerometer, a compass, and more.
