Vero Beach, Florida – When the hot and humid season is fully upon them, Floridians escape inside to beat the heat.

“We spend over 90% of our time indoors, and when the humidity rises that goes up even further”, says Joshua Roberts, Owner and General Manager of Air Doc’s of the Treasure Coast, Inc.

As the area’s leading authority on air conditioning, Roberts has devoted his life to educating homeowners about the importance of indoor air quality.

“The air we breathe is just something we take for granted. Most people don’t think about how the air in their home has implications for their health and wellbeing because they can’t see problematic air pollutants. It’s a case of out of sight out of mind.”

Roberts has talked to countless people over his career who see a sudden increase in their allergies, colds or even feelings of fatigue when the humid weather hits and they begin spending more time indoors.

Common indoor pollutants include dust, pet dander, smoke, pesticides and mold. If there is a problem in the home with fresh air exchange or maintenance such as duct cleaning has not been done regularly, these pollutants can negatively impact health… especially in more  susceptible populations like the elderly or those with chronic conditions.

Roberts says there are four things that homeowners can do to dramatically improve their indoor air quality.

  1. Routinely replace air filters in the air conditioner, furnace and any other HVAC device.

  2. In-duct air purifier – These air purifiers are custom designed to meet the exact needs and specifications of the home or business and unlike plug-in air purifiers they clean the entire space, not just a specific area

  3. Duct cleaning – This is a common source of poor air quality and a place where dust, dander, rodent droppings and even mold like to hide.

  4. Adding return or supply vents – If the initial HVAC system was not set up correctly, it may just need some simple tweaking tol help it work more efficiently.

“The priority with most of our customers is to ensure their home is cool and comfortable. That is why at Air Doc’s we go a step further to make sure that it is also a healthy environment. We pride ourselves on honesty, integrity and excellence in our service. Our goal is to help ensure the comfort, health and safety of all our clients and indoor air quality is a major part of that.”
