The Leadville Trail 100 MTB events in Colorado started with a 2-day expo that participants were able to explore. The expo featured thirty sponsors and participants had the opportunity to test out Stages SB20 Smart Bike. The Leadville Race Series culminated in a 104-mile journey through some of Colorado’s toughest terrain. Several Stages athletes raced with Stages Power and Stages Dash.
While they had a support crew along the course, riders were left alone to climb 13,000 feet in elevation before returning to Leadville. The goal for many was a coveted belt buckle for those finishing in 12 hours or less. Leadboat athletes participated in both Leadville Trail 100 MTB and the Steamboat Gravel Black, a 144-mile gravel race.
John Croom, who finished in 8:41:00 said, “I’ve gone through a world of emotions. I just got this mountain bike and built it last night and this is the third time a CTS coach has raced Leadville on this bike. I figure I could finish in 12 hours but then who knows, I might be able to pull it off in 8 hours. Who knows right? My goal is to start at the back of the Red Corral and ride safe and smart and have a good time.”
The Leadville Trail 100 MTB had over 1500 participants. The oldest participant was 74 years old, while the youngest was 18 years old. The average age of the riders was 46 years. Riders came from all fifty states of the United States and 11 countries were represented as well. Stages Product Development Director, Andy Lull, competed and finished in 8:26:23.
