Maui Soccer Donates Water & Food To Help Hawaii Climate Emergencies

Former Claremont Graduate University student leads Maui's first professional soccer team and pledges to donate water and food resources to those in need during climate emergencies across Hawaii.

September 3, 2021 / /

Climate issues in Hawaii aren't slowing down. When they hit, they have devastating consequences for the locals, leaving many without water and nutrients. Maui's first-ever professional soccer team is stepping in to provide a solution for this, headed by Hart Cunningham - a 2020 POTUS DNC candidate and former student at CGU.

Cunningham is currently living in Hawaii on his own personal estate, where he is training the Maui professional football team. He has long been a supporter of climate change solutions, making it one of his foremost arguments when running as a presidential candidate. Consequently, he has pledged to donate 2,400 gallons of water every single day, along with 2400 citrus/papaya/avocado for groups in need during climate emergencies in Hawaii.

Maui's first professional soccer team to the rescue
Cunningham's generous pledge comes alongside his role as the player/coach of the Maui soccer team. Maui has a long history of supporting soccer and is proud to finally have a professional team. Hart Cunningham has a rich soccer background, determined to lead Maui to the championship against the defending champions San Diego Sockers - featuring former USMNT striker Landon Donovan.

While training the team on his Maui estate, Cunningham has taken lessons from his own book, Maximizing Me - 30 Lessons on the Journey to Self-Empowerment, which is a book all about learning how to empower oneself. He's used it as a guide for the players and it has been utilized by many across America. The teachings from the book will be used to fuel the team's success in the upcoming championship.

The youngest Economics graduate at CGU
The news of his generous donation to the people of Hawaii comes on the 24th anniversary of Cunningham being the youngest to graduate with a Masters in Economics at CGU. He was a prodigy under Peter F Drucker, and his daily pledge to Hawaii honors Drucker's memories within the Claremont Community.

Hart Cunningham will be leading Maui's first professional soccer team in 2022, part of the Major Arena Soccer League. He has spent many years playing and coaching soccer and will be lining up as a striker as well as doing his coaching duties with the team. The first game will be played at Chevrolet Del Mar Arena at the Del Mar Fairgrounds in California next year.

About CGU

At CGU, students are encouraged to pursue academic research agendas both within and across traditional curricular boundaries. As a member of The Claremont Colleges, a consortium of seven independent institutions, CGU is able to offer a greater breadth of faculty and campus resources than is typical of a university with 2,200 students.
