The 2021 edition of the law firm’s essay scholarship focuses on distracted driving and its dangers. This scholarship is emphasized on shedding light on the dangers of distracted driving while also helping interested college students and high school students (upon graduation from high school) in Albuquerque, NM, to attend an institution of higher education. The Parnall Law Firm Distracted Driving Scholarship offers $5,000 in prizes to the top three (3) applicants at the end of the competition.
Interested applicants who have not sent in their entries are encouraged to create a distracted driving family plan within which they highlight how to keep their family safe and avoid distracted driving. The essay should encompass the concept of distracted driving, including explaining what distracted driving is, personal experiences of distracted driving, and actions taken when someone was distracted while driving. The essay should also contain:
Suggestions on how the applicant would convince their family not to engage in distracted driving
Opinions on whether smartphone technology has been helpful or destructive to teen drivers
Cases of distracted driving that have affected the applicant or their loved ones
Applicants are encouraged to give examples, surveys, statistics, studies, and/or stories in the news to support their points. All entries should be submitted via the form on the Distracted Driving Attorneys website.
The first-place winner will be awarded $2,500, while the second and third-place winners will get $1,500 and $1,000, respectively. Applicants must be US residents in a New Mexico high school, college, or university to be eligible for consideration. Winners will be announced in Spring 2022.
