Now helmed by young entrepreneurs Oleksiy Chaukin and Boris Leshchinskiy, Laux Sporting Goods continues to make headway in the market after it was announced as among the oldest sporting goods retailers in the country.

Laux Sporting Goods continues to revolutionize the industry after it has been recognized as among 10 of the oldest sporting goods retailers in the United States.

The company, which was owned by the same family since it was established in 1921, was sold to young entrepreneurs Oleksiy Chaukin and Bois Leshchinskiy, co-owners of Dip’ N Dive, which has also made its own mark in the global industry as well.

David Laux, former Laux Sporting Goods president, said he wanted the name to stay and trusts the young entrepreneurs to build on the success and continue the legacy of Laux Sporting Goods.

“We knew it needed younger (owners), with more energy, and with more tech skills,” said David Laux

David said the company started with his grandfather in 1921 and has become a century-old seller of trophies, uniforms, and other team gear through generations.

“We’d like to thank everybody for all the support – from the leagues, the schools, and all the people who shopped in our stores in many, many years. With that, a name shall go on, and a tradition shall live,” David added.

The young entrepreneurs, Chaukin and Leshchinskiy, said they see the potential to grow the Laux operation significantly.

Laux Sporting Goods began a century ago, when the patriarch, Alphonse, a semi-pro ball player, started selling bats, gloves, and baseballs from his ice cream salon. Alphonse moved the business across the street to its longtime place at 441 Broadway and focused on sporting goods.

Through the years, Laux Sporting Goods made its mark in the market by supplying sports equipment, trophies, uniforms, and plaques to recreational, professional, high school, and youth teams between Syracuse and Buffalo. Alphonse’s son, James, led the firm in 1959, where he held the position of president alongside his brother, Richard, who served as the vice president. About 40 years later, David, James’ son, took the helm, where siblings, in-laws, and cousins accompanied him in the third generation of the Laux family to lead the company.

Chaukin says the new leadership is bound to take that even further with the launch of its new website as the company ramps up its online presence strategy and sets the trajectory of Laux Sporting Goods for the years to come.

“We have stepped up efforts to continue the legacy set by Laux. We want to see it expand further. We want to see it outside of Western New York,” says Leshchinskiy

Laux has one retail location in Western New York. It carries the latest licensed NFL, NHL, and MLB jerseys and merchandise for diehard sports fans. The company also carries a vast assortment of sports equipment for all seasons, as well as sneakers for everyone, whether they’re a novice or a pro.

The young entrepreneurs also hinted at the possibility of shopping online as the company takes business operations to the next level.
