Construction is underway on an 8.9 MW floating solar array at a water treatment facility in New Jersey.

NJR Clean Energy Ventures, a subsidiary of New Jersey Resources, claims the project will be the largest floating solar array in the U.S. once it's completed.

Located in Millburn, New Jersey, the floating solar array is expected to generate 95% of the annual power needs at New Jersey American Water's Canoe Brook Water Treatment Plant through a power purchase agreement with NJR CEV.

New Jersey American Water is the state's largest water and wastewater utility company.

The floating rack system will feature 16,510 solar panels installed on a reservoir located at the facility.

Solar Renewable Energy LLC is developing the project while RETTEW is providing engineering, procurement, and construction services. NJR CEV acquired the project earlier this year.

"The Canoe Brook project advances floating solar in the United States, combining the newest technologies for large wattage bifacial panels with next generation floats and anchoring," said Clayton Bubeck, president and CEO of RETTEW.

The Canoe Brook floating solar project is expected to be completed in the fall of 2022.

This is NJR CEV's second floating solar project. The first, a 4.4 MW array located in Sayreville, New Jersey (pictured above), was added in 2020.
