Straits Forum: a bridge between hearts that benefits the people

As the largest non-political platform which promotes people-to-people exchanges across the Straits, the annual Straits Forum will convene in Xiamen again on July 12 for the 14th year running in 2022 .

The 20th Straits Youth Forum.

Born in 2009, the Forum is turning 14. During the years, it witnessed so many affectionate stories about how people across the Straits have been working together.

Xutao, a young man from Taiwan, told the Forum how he started a business late last year. “You will never know how vast the world is until you cross the Straits,” said this successful businessman, who is shortlisted with partners from mainland China in the Hurun China Under 30s To Watch 2021. He sincerely invited Taiwanese youth to the mainland. Wu Jiaying is a Taiwanese businessman who attends the Forum annually. He started a construction materials business in Xiamen 20 years ago, and now it is booming. “The Forum is where the aspirations of people from Taiwan and the mainland lie and cross-Straits communication deepens. It is where people across the Straits build stronger bonds and promote deeper exchanges,” said Wu Jiaying.

As a bridge between hearts, the Forum always benefits the people across the Straits. Fan Jiangfeng, a Taiwanese young man, has attended the Forum for five years. He joined a group of mainland youth in starting a business. Now enjoying a successful career, he has signed up over 7000 young Taiwanese people for the mainland’s exchange programs, and helped over 300 young Taiwanese people start businesses in Fujian. Fan Jiangfeng speaks highly of Fujian for its preferential treatment that Taiwanese youth enjoys in starting businesses. He calls Xiamen as the first choice for the Taiwanese youth who aspire to build a successful career in the mainland. “Why not come to such a wonderful place?” Jiang said.

For 14 years, the Forum has been a platform where people across the Straits build stronger bonds and plan for deeper cooperation. Remarkable progress has been achieved in people-to-people exchanges across the Straits. This year the Forum will still use the theme “Expand People-to-People Exchanges and Deepen Integrated Development”. It will remain focused on efforts to benefit the common people and the youth. It will cooperate with the Taiwanese to promote traditional Chinese culture. Development opportunities will be shared between the mainland and Taiwan for the deeper integration of cross-Strait development.
