Since 2021, Non-fungible token (NFT) digital collections have become increasingly popular around the world, and more and more design works have been marked as NFTs on the blockchain.
Stop Shooting Me
Recently, based in Southeast Asia, NFT artist launches NFTs for the two most polarizing social issues in the United States: abortion and guns. They are “Pro-choice” and “Stop Shooting Me”. “Pro-choice” aims to show support for women’s reproductive autonomy, while “Stop Shooting Me” is related to awakening people’s awareness of gun control. All the proceeds of the two NFTs will be donated to the corresponding public welfare organizations.
At present, these two NFT projects have been listed on OpenSea.io, the world’s first and largest digital marketplace for crypto collectibles and non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

On June 23, the Supreme Court finds the N.Y. law violates the right to carry guns outside home. The day after the ruling was passed, a shooting occurred in Chicago, the United States, killing a 5-month-old baby girl. As the country with the worst gun violence in the world, the number of victims of gun violence in the United States has reached a record high, with an average of 122 people dying at gunpoint every day.
On June 24, the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, the landmark ruling that established the constitutional right to abortion in the U.S. nearly half a century ago, ruling there is no constitutional right to abortion. The decision could immediately make abortion illegal in 22 states. The whole country of the United States was shocked by the news. On the same day, UN Spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said that reproductive rights are integral to women’s rights, to human rights more generally, a principle upheld by international agreement and reflected in the law to varying degrees in many parts of the world. Restrictions on abortion will not stop people from pursuing abortion, it will only make abortion more dangerous.
Looking at the two decisions of the Supreme Court of the United States, one is to overturn the centennial gun control law, and the other is to overturn the law allowing abortion, both of which are precisely the greatest violations of liberal democracy. While restricting women’s rights to abortion on the grounds of respect for life, they support gun rights and allow criminals to shoot children in schools. It is puzzling that the United States has shown a contradictory attitude towards gun control and abortion.
Supporting gun rights and banning abortion, the two issues have entered a contradictory endless cycle. Guns have more rights than women, which is not only a consequence of increased political polarization but also a retrogression of human rights.
The launch of the two NFT projects represents that artists expect to use blockchain technology to draw attention to these issues and protect freedom and human rights through the auction of NFT digital collections.
