Students enrolled in a University in the United States who applied for the Walter Morales Scholarship for Urban Education improvement can now know their application results. The scholarship was open to all universities and colleges in the United States. Those in high school to attend a university were also invited to apply. The Walter Morales Scholarship of $5,000 has been awarded to the most deserving student based on an essay competition that did not exceed 1,000 words. The winner of the scholarship was selected based on a creative essay answering the question "Think about the unique challenges that face urban schools. Urban schools are marked by higher concentrations of poverty, greater racial and ethnic diversity, a large concentration of immigrant populations, language diversity, and more frequent rates of students. Discuss these and/or other factors that are challenges for urban schools and how you would improve the urban education system." A total scholarship fund of $5,000 has been awarded to the best student to put towards tuition and education fees. Morales read through all the essays and the student with the most logical, outstanding, and the creative response was granted the scholarship.
Education is the foundation for any successful career and profession. With the rising cost of education, many students are put through a lot of stress financially. There are many cases where students have been forced to work part-time and others full-time just to raise money for their higher education. Some promising students have dropped out of school and given up on their studies for lack of education and tuition fees. No one knows the many struggles that students studying on the road to better their lives and have a successful career face more than Morales. It is for this reason that he decided to reward the most deserving student with a scholarship amount of $5,000 to ease their financial burden. Through his scholarship, he is hoping that the winner will have a humble time studying to achieve their goals. He is also hoping that the scholarship reward will help raise awareness of the many issues that students go through while studying. He further hopes that the scholarship will also open more opportunities for students to get the help they need.
Walter Morales, the person behind the scholarship has lived in Baton Rouge, Louisiana all his life. He has been part of the Baton community as an entrepreneur and a businessman. He is an educator and a professor as well. For many years, he has been part of the board of directors for non-profit organizations in his area. He is one person who is very passionate about helping others, especially future leaders. He is very committed to improving the education system in the United States of America. Recently, he is focusing on urban education and that is why he offered his scholarship for urban education improvement in which the winner was awarded a scholarship. All eligible students for the scholarship were encouraged to make their application and the winner was announced thereafter.
