WiQuest Communications, Inc., the worldwide leader in complete WiMedia standard based ultrawideband solutions, today announced that WiQuest has been selected as the sole Wireless USB solution provider for Kensington’s ground-breaking Wireless USB Docking Station (SKU# K33920US). The Kensington® Wireless USB Docking Station is the world’s first Wireless USB Docking Station certified by the USB-IF. This exciting new category of product combines video, audio, and USB connectivity using the industry standard Wireless USB technology and takes user convenience and satisfaction to the next level. A secure wireless connection from a notebook PC is automatically made to an external display/monitor, speakers and up to 5 wired USB peripherals without plugging in a single cable to the PC. Docking a Wireless USB-enabled notebook PC to a desktop-size display, stereo speakers, and multiple USB peripherals is easily accomplished by simply “coming into range” of the Wireless Docking Station. Undocking is just as easy by “moving the notebook away.”
“WiQuest’s complete solution and leadership track record in wireless gave us confidence that we could claim the lead position in Wireless Docking and reinforce our strength in notebook PC computing accessories for the mobile consumer,” said Leonard Tsang, Regional Product Marketing Manager at Kensington. “The Wireless Docking Station, with its ability to automatically connect to a Wireless USB notebook PC – enabling the wireless workspace, is a perfect example of Kensington’s smart made simple design philosophy,” he added. “Mobile consumers now have the convenience of moving between their offices at home and work and wirelessly connect, not only to their USB peripherals, but also to an extended monitor and speakers without plugging in a cable. Until now, with our Wireless USB Docking Station based on WiQuest’s technology, this has not been possible.”
Kensington is a worldwide leader in delivering PC computing accessories for the mobile consumer.
The Kensington Wireless USB Docking Station uses WiQuest’s Wireless USB Device Mini Card reference design. The single radio reference design is optimized to support robust audio and video for typical office and Internet applications. It is configured with multiple ports to support a variety of PC peripherals. Ports include (1) Video Out (DVI/VGA), (1) Stereo Audio Out, (1) front USB port, and (4) back USB ports. The Wireless USB Docking Station’s video driver supports PC monitors up to 22-inch at native resolution of 1600 x 1200 pixels or widescreen monitors with 1680x1050 resolution.
“With the trend towards ultra-thin and light notebook PCs, manufacturers are forced to make compromises resulting in fewer wired USB connectors and no physical docking capability in order to preserve valuable space and reduce weight and form factor,” said Todd Brown, vice president of sales at WiQuest. “With Kensington’s Wireless USB Docking Station, manufacturers are still able to offer a robust docking solution and consumers are able to enjoy the added convenience and simplicity of a seamless and cable-free, wireless connection to all of their high performance desktop peripherals. Users can now have the best of both worlds by carrying a small, mobile, lightweight notebook PC while also enjoying the productivity of a large monitor and desktop peripherals at their desk. WiQuest and Kensington are truly enabling a new, more convenient wireless workspace user experience.”
